The excellent Google Maps
app is reportedly getting an overhaul, with a new design that removes
the sidebar, replacing it with pop-ups that show you all the information
you need to see. It includes a new feature with filtering for local
search results based on your Google+ Circles.
The leaked images of the new Google Maps interface come from the blog Google Operating System, which has proved to be a reliable source in the past. The images look convincing, and the design makes a lot of sense, especially for touch devices. The focus seems to be on making better use of space - making the map bigger - and better integration with other Google services. The images show the maps have new colors, fonts and icons.

Google's I/O keynote speech will disclose more details about changes to Google Maps, as well as the rumored unifying of communication services into Babel or Hangouts. We'll be there to bring you all the important developments.
